just spent 20 days on balmoral sailing from rome to dover, on booking offered a guarnteed outside cabin this turned out to be cabin 5182 on atlantic deck (the rear of deck 5) we have been cruising for 25 years on all the worlds major cruise lines but this is the worst cabin we have ever been in, the secondary glazing windows were stuffed with paper we soon found out why when the ships engines started.the vibration and noise was horrendous.the noise and vibration are accectable when the ship is sailing in a straight line but on manouvering docking and sailaway its unbearable and it lasts for at least an hour every morning and evening so you cannot have a lie in or afternoon nap.several cabins are affected by this at the rear of deck 5 as are cabins at the rear of deck 4 the further towards the front the effect is less. every thing else was satisfactory staff entertainment and food but if you cannot get sufficient sleep you cannot enjoy it.

I have just returned from cruising on the Balmoral from Venice to Dover on the 22nd June 2008 I thought the ship was great. Whould have no problem sailing on her again are you sure you were on the right ship

I was also on this cruise and can confirm that the noise and vibration in this cabin was horrendous as my husband and I were in the cabin when we were setting off one evening. My husband and I were lucky as we were on deck three in the extended part, and had no noise, vibration or movement and I would recommend our cabin, 3054. The ship is very nice but I felt that although the staff were friendly, some of the passengers were not as friendly as when we have been on other ships with other companies, and the ship lacked atmosphere. The food was alright but we have had better and it was sometimes only tepid, and no silver service at dinner. My biggest disappointment was not having the promised two days in Venice, as due to the time of our flight we did not arrive in Venice until 9.00pm, and sailed next day at midday. If we had known we would only have a couple of hours in Venice we would not have booked this particular cruise.
